For the grid

Beyond electricity generation. The future of the grid is flexibility.

For a century, the stability of the electricity grid was guaranteed by large fossil-fuel power plants. Today the transition toward intermittent renewable sources has inverted the paradigm: it is no longer generation that chases consumption, it must be consumption that adapts to generation. Wattora unlocks an asset capable of delivering this flexibility at scale and at near-zero cost to public infrastructure: distributed residential storage.

The problem

The structural mismatch: a burden worth billions of euros.

The massive expansion of photovoltaics has permanently transformed the energy consumption profile into what experts call the Duck Curve.

During the day, the abundance of solar energy floods the market, drastically lowering net demand and pushing prices toward zero (the duck's belly). But at sunset, panels stop producing just as people return home and turn on their appliances. This creates a sudden, steep spike in demand (the neck) that the grid must urgently cover, either by relying on stored battery power or by firing up expensive and polluting fossil fuel power plants.

The grid as it was designed

There is no sun yet and the three years lie on the same line: net demand coincides with total demand and the fleet of power plants follows it effortlessly.

Illustrative curves

This intensification of the curve generates three systemic problems that the TSOs (Transmission System Operators) pay for dearly:

01

Curtailment and negative prices (the belly)

During the midday hours, prices collapse. Operators disconnect renewable plants to avoid overloads, wasting clean energy.

02

Evening ramp-ups (the neck)

As the sun sets, the power deficit is covered by firing up old gas plants again, at exorbitant costs and with high emissions.

03

Inertia crisis and blackout risk

Without the large fossil-fuel turbines, the grid becomes fragile. Without fast flexibility, the risk is a cascading blackout, as happened in Spain.

Our architecture

A Virtual Power Plant driven by Artificial Intelligence.

Wattora is not just software. We have developed a hybrid infrastructure (edge hardware + cloud AI) capable of aggregating thousands of behind-the-meter home systems into a single dispatchable resource.

Edge intelligence

Our proprietary gateway interfaces directly with the home inverter. It analyzes local loads, overcomes the limitations of the hardware manufacturers' proprietary clouds, and guarantees sub-second latencies.

Cloud AI orchestration

Our algorithms process weather forecasts, consumption habits, and price signals, determining the optimal charge and discharge profile for every single node in the fleet.

Modular aggregation

We transform thousands of small batteries into power blocks of several megawatts, ready to respond instantly to grid commands.

The market

Unlocking a new asset class in the Balancing Market.

Europe is unifying its grid reserves through the PICASSO and MARI projects, creating the largest liquidity pool for flexibility services in the world.

Until now, access to the Balancing Market was an oligopoly reserved for industrial utilities. Wattora democratizes this access: we offer TSOs, such as Terna, RTE, Red Eléctrica and Amprion, an upward and downward balancing resource that is faster, cleaner, and cheaper than fossil-fuel plants, channeling the structural profits of the grid directly into the pockets of household users for the first time.
